United Nations. The UN General Assembly on Wednesday called for an end to Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories within “12 months” in a non-binding resolution that has been criticised by Israel.
The text, in line with the International Court of Justice’s opinion of last July on the Israeli occupation, was adopted by 124 votes in favour, 14 against and 43 abstentions.
It is a “cynical” stance, Israel responds
Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday called a non-binding UN General Assembly resolution demanding an end to its occupation of Palestinian territories within 12 months “cynical” and “distorted.”
“This is cynical international politics,” ministry spokesman Oren Marmorstein said on social media after UN member states approved the text by 124 votes to 14, with 43 abstentions. “A distorted decision that is disconnected from reality, encourages terrorism and harms the chances of peace,” he added.
