After the allocation of TV rights for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for the period 2021-2024, to Amazon, Canal + and BeIN Sports, the famous encrypted channel announced that it will not broadcast the French championship.
Thunderclap! Canal + has not yet said its last word and expressed its dissatisfaction. After the LFP’s decision to award eight Ligue 1 matches per day and 8 Ligue 2 matches also per day to the American giant, Amazon, the encrypted channel decided to withdraw from the TV rights race for the period 2021- 2024. The group led by Maxime Saada did not accept the fact of having been awarded the other two matches in Ligue 1. Through a press release the channel formalized this decision: “After the failure of the choice of Mediapro in 2018, CANAL + regrets the decision of the Professional Football League (LFP) to retain Amazon’s proposal today to the detriment of that of its historical partners CANAL + and beIN Sports. CANAL + will therefore not broadcast Ligue 1. ”
