Deputy General Chairperson of the Ummat Party DPP Buni Yani stated that Amien Rais and Abu Bakar Ba’asyir also adheres to Islam ahlussunah waljamaah (Aswaja) who are the same as Nahdlatul Ulama members (NOT).
He conveyed this in response to a statement by PBNU Secretary General Saifullah Yusuf or Gus Ipul who asked Nahdliyin not to choose the candidate pair supported by Abu Bakar Baasyir and Amien Rais.
So far, the candidate pairs supported by these two figures are presidential and vice presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN).
“Because Gus Ipul has mentioned the names of people, namely Pak Amien and Ustaz Abu Bakar Baasyir, who we both know are Muslims too, and I need to underline that both of them adhere to Islam ahlussunah waljamaah,” said Buni Yani to CNNIndonesia.comWednesday (17/1).
Amien Rais currently serves as Chairman of the Syuro Council of the Ummat Party.
Amien and the Ummat Party have declared support for Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar (AMIN). Just like Amien, recently the son of Abu Bakar Baasyir said that his father supports the AMIN partner in the 2024 presidential election.
Buni Yani then questioned Gus Ipul’s statement which suggested that NU members should not choose the same as Amien or Baasyir. In fact, he saw that the unity of Muslims in Indonesia, especially NU and Muhammadiyah, was encouraging.
“Gus Ipul should be happy to see the unity of this Ummah. Gus Imin, who is from NU and then supported by the Ummat Party and PKS, makes Muslims feel that the unity of the Ummah is back in the country,” he said.
On the other hand, Buni Yani is not too sure about Gus Ipul’s statement. He tried to think that Gus Ipul was joking when he made this statement.
“Because we know our brothers wong NU really likes to joke. “Hopefully he’s not serious,” he said.
Previously, Gus Ipul asked all NU residents to exercise their right to vote in the 2024 presidential election by choosing candidates who comply with NUan rules.
Specifically, he asked NU residents not to vote for the candidate pair supported by Abu Bakar Baasyir.
“We should not support a partner who is supported by people who are at odds with the way NU people think. Like the candidate supported by Abu Bakar Baasyir for example, especially since there is Amien Rais too,” said Gus Ipul in his statement, Tuesday (16/1).
“We have to be wary of other groups that are at odds with NU, especially if they are just being lured by the position of vice president. Don’t choose this group,” he said.
Gus Ipul did not clearly state who the presidential and vice presidential candidates supported by Abu Bakar Baasyir and Amin Rais were.
