UTRECHT – UMC Utrecht is looking for participants to test a vaccine against the corona virus. This is a drug developed by Janssen Vaccins in Leiden.
The vaccine is tested on Dutch, Spaniards and Germans. In the Netherlands, in addition to Utrecht, people are also tested in Groningen and Leiden. The purpose of the test is to determine that the vaccine is safe for humans, is effective and has a lasting effect. The test must also determine the optimal dosages of the drug.
Test subjects
UMC Utrecht is looking for 45 test subjects, says medical microbiologist Marc Bonten. “We are looking for healthy volunteers – both men and women – in the age groups of 18-55 years of age and older. The participants will each receive three injections.”
The subjects will be studied for a longer period. “All participants will be followed for more than a year to investigate whether the vaccine is safe, well tolerated and elicits the desired immune response,” says Bonten.
Previous test
An earlier test of the vaccine on humans is already underway in the United States and Belgium. This week, Chile, Argentina and Peru were added for testing in Latin America.
Johnson & Johnson, the parent company of Janssen Vaccines, has already received several orders for its vaccine in case the drug proves effective against the corona virus. More than 150 corona vaccines are being developed and tested worldwide. Thirty of these are tested on humans.
People who want to participate in the study can contact UMC Utrecht.
