UMBAL Burgas Leads the Way in Energy Efficiency and Patient Care Improvements
UMBAL Burgas has taken a monumental leap forward in enhancing both its energy efficiency and the quality of care for patients and staff. Through a groundbreaking energy efficiency project funded by the Ministry of Health, the hospital has successfully implemented two major repair activities, totaling nearly BGN 10 million. These initiatives not onyl reduce operational costs but also position UMBAL Burgas as a leader in enduring healthcare practices.
The first phase of the project focused on the design and implementation of thermal insulation for the exterior walls, floors, and roofs of all hospital buildings. This upgrade has significantly minimized heat loss during the winter months, leading to substantial savings in heating costs. Additionally, the hospital’s exterior has been revitalized, improving its aesthetic appeal.
The second phase introduced a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system, transforming the hospital into a self-sufficient energy hub. Solar panels installed on the rooftops now generate electricity and produce hot water for the hospital’s needs. Thanks to the building’s prime location and abundant sunlight, the system has already demonstrated a noticeable reduction in electricity costs.
This project is part of UMBAL Burgas’s ongoing commitment to energy efficiency and resilience. Six years ago,the hospital built its own oxygen installation, extracting oxygen from atmospheric air for medical use. This innovation has eliminated reliance on external suppliers, saving meaningful financial resources and ensuring uninterrupted patient care.in addition to these energy-focused upgrades, the hospital has completed renovations in its Emergency Department. All offices have been modernized, and new equipment—including carts, tables, tools, and training posters—has been installed to enhance the working environment for specialists and trainees.
