Umayra Taghiyeva spoke about the possible water shortage in Azerbaijan

“The level of the Caspian Sea has not yet reached its historical minimum, there is a little more than 80 centimeters left to this indicator. But there are other factors that worry experts: in April there was a record decrease compared to other years, the water level in the Caspian Sea has dropped by 113 centimeters in the last 10 years.” SIA reports that these views were expressed by the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Umayra Taghiyeva, in Hamid Hamidov’s “Shall we talk?” he said in the next edition of his podcast.

He spoke extensively about the reasons for the decrease of water resources in Azerbaijan and talked about the prolongation of drought periods against the background of the decrease in precipitation and the increase in water consumption in the country: “But these processes were observed not only in Azerbaijan. For example, shallowing of rivers was observed in France, Italy and other countries last summer. This process exists everywhere.”

The deputy minister said that careless use of a precious resource like water makes the related situation in our country even more difficult compared to some countries with a lot of water resources.

U. Taghiyeva also spoke about climate change, the possibility of an ecological disaster, including the state of forests in Azerbaijan.

He emphasized that during the occupation of Karabakh, natural resources were greatly damaged.
