First home defeat of the season in the league for Umana Reyer, beaten in a sprint by Dolomiti Energia Trentino 72-73 at the end of the now classic North-East derby which once again proved to be a highly competitive challenge.
Despite several players in non-optimal conditions, only captain Bramos is left out of the 12 due to neck problems. At the start of the match (which Umana Reyer faces with Spissu, Freeman, Parks, Willis and Watt) Watt is the main protagonist, both in attack and with a couple of blocks in the excellent Orogranata defense that allows the 8-2 at 3’30” and then 11-4 on Moraschini’s triple in the middle of the period. Trento still manages to stay in contact, between -5 and -3, until the last possession, in which Moraschini’s 3-point basket once again hits the buzzer for 20-14. A three-pointer by Parks at the end of the 24″ counts makes it 23-16 at 11’30”, but it will remain the only basket by a Umana Reyer who shouts loudly on offensive rebounds (there will be 11 in the second period alone ) but is reached on parity at odds of 23 at 14’30”. Trento also touches the +3 (25-28) in the 16th minute, with the orogranata who, although imprecise at shooting, manage to charge their opponents with fouls (3 at the end of the first half for Udom and Atkins) and take advantage of the laps between overtake and overtake. Watt arrives at 11 with two baskets in a row (33-32 at 18’30”), but Moraschini’s free throws again, also in double figures, close the first half on 35-33.
The Dolomites go 35-38 at the start of the second half, Freeman hits from 3, but then the orogranata attack stops in front of the Trentino area, the orogranata bonus is used up after 2′ and at 23’30” it’s time out on 38-44. Spaniard drags Trento up 38-46 in the 24th minute, Willis returns to move Umana Reyer’s score after 3’30” and, from the middle of the quarter, at 40-46, the fourth fouls of Atkins, Udom and Spissu arrive, but above all Moraschini lights up again, absolute protagonist in the 48-50 in the 27th minute. The guests extend again to 48-55 at 27’30” but then Watt provokes the fourth foul also by Grazulis and the fifth by Udom, preserving the 53-55 even with a block, but with Conti on hand in good time before of the siren for 53-57. At 31’30”, on Brooks’s and-one (after Freeman’s triple and Watt’s hook), he is equal at 61. However, it is again Moraschini who signs the 63-61 first and the 32’30”. In the 34th minute Atkins also arrives at his fifth foul in attack, but Trento is ahead at 66-67 in the middle of the quarter and 66-69 at 35’30”. Umana Reyer takes the lead with Watt and Freeman (70-69 in the 37′ minute), Grazulis resurpasses on 70-71 in the 37’30 minute”, finally scores with the dropper: 72-71 by Brooks at -31″, 72- 73 of Spanish at -11”. After the time out, the penetration of Granger arrives, with doubtful contact not whistled, Freeman takes over but there is the clean block of Grazulis to close the match.
