Ultralight plane crashes near highway in Terni: two dead, one is the former vice president of Pescara

Two people died following a plane crash near the Terni airfield, where an ultralight, according to initial information from firefighters, crashed immediately after takeoff and caught fire. The dead are believed to be the pilot and a passenger. The impact – firefighters explain – occurred at the end of the Maratta road, toward Narni, shortly after Chico Mendez park. The aircraft was headed to L’Aquila. The victims of the plane crash in the Maratta area, which is located on the border between the municipalities of Terni, San Gemini and Narni, are two men aged around 60.
The vehicle involved is a four-seater, single-engine tourist aircraft and was headed to L’Aquila. It crashed immediately after taking off from the “Leonardi” airfield in Terni, where it had arrived from Foligno. Two people on board, the pilot and a passenger, lost their lives. Once it had fallen, the aircraft was affected by a fire that spread to the surrounding vegetation and was immediately extinguished.
The State Police intervened on site – first the flying squad and then the scientific police and the Terni flying squad – the local police, the firefighters who put out the flames and restored safety conditions and the 118 operators. The aircraft fell on land next to the E45 highway. The Terni tragedy also shakes the Pescara sports and football world. One of the two victims of the Terni air tragedy, 58-year-old Claudio Di Giacomo, an entrepreneur from Città Sant’Angelo in the wine sector, had been vice president of Pescara Calcio in 2007-2008, in a difficult and troubled period for the white-blue club. After that experience, Di Giacomo, a white-blue fan, had distanced himself from the city’s sports and football world. A few years earlier, his passion for flying had developed.
