In a flight accident at the weekend at the Rheinstetten-Forchheim glider airfield, an ultralight aircraft broke on landing. The pilot was unharmed.
According to the police, the crash landing of an ultralight aircraft in Rheinstetten-Forchheim in the district of Karlsruhe caused damage of around 140,000 euros. The 57-year-old pilot was not injured. He took off with his two-seater TL-3000 Sirius aircraft from Hof-Plauen in north-eastern Bavaria.
When landing shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to witness reports, his plane touched down several times and was thrown up again. The nose wheel broke off, the high-wing aircraft overturned and its fuselage broke apart.
The cause of the accident may have been pilot error
According to a flight controller in Forchheim, the accident could have been caused by pilot error. The pilot may have intercepted his machine too late when landing. In order to prevent the hard impact, the machine should have gone around, according to the flight director.
The aircraft is now being dismantled into its individual parts and examined. Whether it can be repaired is not yet certain, according to an expert in Forchheim.
