Ultimate Team mode of games like FIFA 21, Madden NFL 21 and NHL 21 generated $1.62 billion (BRL 8.4 billion) of revenue for Electronic Arts in fiscal year 2020 (April 2020 to March 2021). This is the biggest revenue with the mode in the developer’s history. The numbers were presented this week in a company report to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the US federal agency that regulates the country’s financial markets.

Despite not specifying the values for each game, EA said that most of this revenue came from FIFA 21. The numbers embody the company’s annual report in which it pointed having received US$4.01 billion (R$20.9 billion) in microtransactions in fiscal year 2020.

In a report released in recent weeks, the company revealed that FIFA 21 has surpassed the 25 million player mark. The report also pointed out that Ultimate Team had a 16% growth in the number of players, indicating a link with part of the proceeds to microtransactions. The company also reported an even greater increase in the number of matches compared to the same period last year, reaching 180%.
