Ultimate Guide for New Year’s Eve in Times Square: Tips and Strategies for the Best View

Information to remember

Every year in New York, more than a million people gather to celebrate New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve in Times Square.

Finding a good place to have the best view of the falling giant ball requires great strategy and flawless organization…

So, here are my tips for making the most of this New Year’s Eve in Times Square… in other words this Times Square New Year’s Eve!!!

However, before explaining everything to you, I would still like to tell you that every year, this celebration in Times Square leaves people disappointed. Yes, sorry but I prefer to be frank with you! Above all, you need to know where you are going so as not to regret and especially not to say: “Oh but Alex said it was absolutely necessary to do, and in fact he was wrong! “. 🙂

So you know, several people complained about the length of time they had to wait in the cold without moving… for a show that only lasts a few minutes.

1. Arrive early!

This advice may seem obvious but you should know that the first spectators arrive at 12:00 p.m. Some places are already full in the afternoon!

So, be aware that you will not be able to return to “your place” if you need to leave it to eat, go to the toilet etc. The good plan is therefore to plan everything by equipping yourself as much as possible but above all be patient!

2. Take precautions…

Also bring something to drink and eat, because it is almost impossible for a delivery man or a street vendor to come around to bring you something. You will be waiting around ten hours, so try to think of everything 😉!

3. Dress warmly

This is advice that may seem silly, but even if the temperatures seem pleasant, you have to remember that you will remain almost motionless for hours.

I advise you to bring very comfortable shoes and several layers of clothing to add as you go. Don’t forget a hat, gloves, scarf, waterproof clothing in case of rain and why not heaters to put in your pockets 😉 .

Be careful, large bags and backpacks are prohibited and all bags will be searched. You must therefore take the minimum amount of things with you…

4. Be prepared for the crowds

Around a million people will be with you this New Year’s Eve in Times Square. This means that if you are in sight of the famous ball, there is a very good chance that you will be squeezed for many hours before it descends.

So those who quickly become agoraphobic, I advise you to move away a little and get closer to the TKTS steps.

5. Be patient and positive

Your feet may be trampled on repeatedly, your view may be blocked by certain people taller than you, you may also be jostled… in short, keep your cool and take things lightly to prevent things from escalating .

6. Every hour, celebrate the New Year for the whole planet

To pass the time, know that a mini-party takes place every hour in Times Square from 6:00 p.m..

In fact, every hour, the transition to the new year in other time zones is celebrated. So you can also celebrate New Year’s Day in France! 🙂 There are also concerts, video screenings and sometimes even the appearance of certain stars.

You will also be entitled to some gifts, because there will be distributions of hats, party favors, glasses, balloons, etc.

9. Not convinced?

If all these tips have demotivated you more than anything else, know that there are other events for the occasion 😉. You can take a cruise, run in Central Park, book a restaurant with a view of Times Square, book a special party with a DJ, etc. On the other hand, reservations are essential and events book up very quickly…

10. Final advice

If you ultimately prefer to stay warm and take part in the party from your hotel room, know that it is possible to follow the festivities live 😉.
