Diego Ulissi won the 13th stage of Gira

The peloton tore on two shorter hills at the end of the stage. The riders of Almeida’s Deceuninck-Quick Step pushed the pace, and a number of elite spurters fell off on the second steep climb. Peter Sagan also tried in vain to erase the shortfall, who eventually finished 23 seconds behind the top twenty.
His rival in the scoring competition Arnaud Démare lost even more and finished in the main field with a loss of 41 seconds. Czech cyclist Josef Černý finished in 33rd place in the peloton.
Eight. Diego Ulissi has already won so many victories on Gira.

“We knew we had to steam the sprinters to have a chance to win. We did a good job with Sagan and Demar. I knew in a small group that I could succeed,” Ulissi said after the victory, thanking his teammates for the ideal sprint. “Joao Almeida showed what he can do. He is a young rider who is strong in the hills, but he is also very fast,” he added.
Saturday’s time trial, the longest on this year’s Giro, can bring changes in the overall standings. Cyclists will have a 34.1-kilometer-long track from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene, on which they will have to overcome one steeper climb.
