ULE sees ‘disappointment’ in Seville hosting Space Agency, but announces it will continue to work on ‘other projects’
The rector of the University of León (ULE), Juan Francisco García Marín, assured that the decision of the Council of Ministers to choose Seville as the seat of the Spanish Space Agency was “a disappointment” because the project presented by this university “is been a good project”, although he warned that he will continue to work on “other projects” in the same field to “strengthen” the ULE.
García Marín explained in statements to Europa Press that the ULE trusted the point of the groundwork stating that the Spanish Special Agency headquarters project would be raised for “Spain emptied”, although it ultimately fell to the “Popolosa Spain”.
However, the rector of the ULE recognized a weakness “on a technical level” such as the airport, but also strengths such as the housing situation, where León had gained whole numbers “in a comparative study with Madrid and Seville”. “There will have been other factors that we will try to understand from now on,” he said.
On the controversy relating to the fact that the Junta de Castilla y León had not opted to give priority to one of the cities of the Community competing to host the agency -León competed together with Palencia and Cebreros (Ávila)-, the head of the institute academic institution believes that it would have been positive “if they had made the order of priority”, although it believes that this “would not have been decisive”.
Now, Juan Francisco García Marín said that the ULE will continue to prepare to opt for “other agencies and other projects”, aware that the whole process of attending the headquarters of the Spanish Space Agency has helped “evaluate” the University of Leon. “The ULE works, it’s fine. It’s not a provincial university, it’s a level university,” he pointed out.
