The most serious problem for Ukraine, the respondents consider the military conflict in the east of the country and the increase in tariffs for utilities.
Most Ukrainians believe that events in Ukraine are developing in the wrong direction. This opinion was expressed by 68.5 percent of respondents who took part in a sociological survey of the Ukrainian Center for Economic and Political Research named after Alexander Razumkov, writes DW December 26.
Only 17 percent of those polled believe that events in Ukraine are developing in the right direction.
According to sociologists, the results of the study are almost the same as those that were a year ago (67 and 16.5 percent, respectively). But they are significantly worse than in December 2019 – then 44 percent of Ukrainians believed that events were developing in the right direction, and 36 percent – vice versa.
Now only 12 percent of the respondents, assessing the situation in Ukraine, noted that “everything is not so bad and it is possible to live.” 39 percent said that “it is simply impossible to tolerate the current situation.” 44.5 percent of the respondents indicated that “life is hard, but you can tolerate it.”
Opinions of Ukrainians depend on age and region
As sociologists emphasize, among those respondents who do not have enough money even for necessary food, 63.5 percent answered that it was no longer possible to tolerate such a situation, and only four percent indicated that everything was not so bad.
However, 34 percent of respondents with higher incomes chose the option “not so bad”. 23.5 percent of this group also indicated that the current situation cannot be tolerated.
Only a third of Ukrainians expect the best from 2022
In addition, the answers of the respondents differ significantly in different age groups: older people are more pessimistic. So 22 percent of young people (from 18 to 29 years old) believe that everything is not so bad, and 27 percent – that it is already impossible to endure.
Half of the respondents over the age of 60 assessed the situation negatively, and only six percent – positively.
According to sociologists, the most pessimistic are residents of the south and east of Ukraine – the most negative answer was chosen by 48 and 45 percent of respondents, respectively. In the West, 35.5 percent of respondents hold this opinion, and in the center – 33 percent.
The biggest problem is the military conflict in Donbass
The interviewed citizens indicated that the most serious problem in Ukraine is the military conflict in the east of the country (66 percent of respondents said so) and the increase in utility tariffs (65 percent). Among other problems, Ukrainians attributed the low level of wages and pensions (61 percent) and the rise in prices for basic goods (54 percent).
At the same time, only five percent of Ukrainians noted that since the beginning of 2019, the financial situation of their family has improved. The majority (55.5 percent) indicated that it has worsened, another 36 percent – that has not changed.
Previously Ukrainians named the most significant achievements countries in 2021.
