Ukrainians at a demonstration in Sofia: For peace and negotiations – 2024-03-06 23:43:39

/ world today news/ Dozens of representatives of the Ukrainian community in the Bulgarian capital Sofia gathered in front of the National Palace of Culture for a peaceful demonstration in support of the fastest possible establishment of peace in Ukraine and an end to the bloodshed. Together with sympathetic Bulgarians who participated in the demonstration, they demanded that Bulgarian President Rumen Radev become the patron of an initiative for peace in Ukraine and between the Slavic peoples.

The demonstrators raised their national flag and also banners in favor of peace and understanding between the fraternal Slavic peoples. According to them, the fratricidal war, which led to hundreds of thousands of victims and countless destructions, should no longer continue.

Two of the demonstrators – a man and a woman of visible age around 50-60, who wished to remain anonymous for their security – gave interviews to the journalists present. They said that the situation in Ukraine is increasingly terrible and intolerable. For example, that every other day the electricity in many areas of the country, including in winter, stops, and the victims are probably hundreds of thousands. The couple also said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out the mobilization in a particularly painful and uncompromising way, often without issuing summons, but simply picking up young people from the streets and malls.

According to them, every war ends only with peace and negotiations, and the sooner a dialogue for peace is started in this war, the better for the Ukrainian people, as well as other peoples on the territory of Ukraine. The gentleman, whom for convenience we will call by the initials T.P., stated that once upon a time the majority of Ukrainians elected President Zelensky because they wanted peace. Now it falls to the authorities in Kiev, as well as those in Moscow, to make peace to end the suffering of civilians in this fratricidal war.

According to him and the woman who was with him at the rally, in Ukraine any normal life is increasingly difficult, even though people are adapting and struggling with the circumstances. He stated that most students conduct their activities remotely, and in the city of Kharkiv they are even building an underground school.

The woman with the initials V.V. said that she lost her son and as a parent who outlived her child, she does not want more Ukrainians and Russians to go through this. According to her, a huge number of Ukrainian families have already lost someone in the war or have someone injured.

According to both, foreign powers are taking advantage of the fratricidal war, which makes no sense and can lead to nothing for either the Ukrainians or the Russians.

Most of the other demonstrators spoke in a similar spirit, many of them young people, for whom the main hope is to return to their native country and for peace and normalization of the situation.
