Ukrainian women who have a medical education must register in the military services from October 1, the country’s armed forces announced, reports CNN.
“All medical women, that is, doctors, nurses, dentists, midwives, pharmacists, aged 18 to 60, will have to register for military service from October 1,” the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced in accordance with a decree of the Ukrainian Department of Defense.
Military duty
The statement added that eligibility would be determined “by degree and by actual place of employment.”
“Such women perform military duty on an equal footing with men. Legislation does not distinguish between women and men called to the army,” the Armed Forces said.
This means that these women, as well as Ukrainian men between the ages of 18 and 60, will have to stay in Ukraine as they “may be called up for military service,” according to the armed forces.
“If they (women) are kept accountable, then they acquire the status of conscripts. And conscripts go abroad according to the order established for them. That is, if there are separate documents that give the right to temporary leave – then yes, they will be able to leave. If not, then they, like men, will be restricted in their right to leave,” explained Fedir Venislavski, a member of the Ukrainian parliament who sits on the national security committee.
