/ world today news/ The armed forces of Ukraine have sharply activated in many directions. The dam of the Kakhov hydroelectric plant and the Russian ammonia pipeline near Masyutovka in Kharkiv Oblast were almost simultaneously destroyed by a missile strike.
Assault units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reinforced with NATO armored vehicles, carried out a series of attacks near Bakhmut and on the Vremeviev ledge (north of Ugledar). And the fighters of the terrorist organizations “Free Russia” and “Russian Volunteer Battalion” carried out an attack in the Belgorod region – in the Novaya Tavolzhanka area.
The Kiev command is trying to justify itself. The Russians are said to have blown up the Kakhovskaya HPP and the ammonia pipeline themselves, and the militants who attacked the Belgorod region acted independently.
Western experts refuted all these lies. And they say: the Russian command, headed by Valery Gerasimov, is preparing for all challenges.
Belgorod Governor Gladkov called for the liberation of Kharkiv region
The fighting in the Belgorod region lasted two days. On two occasions, groups of well-armed fighters tried to cross the Seversky Donets River and land on the outskirts of Nova Tavolzhanka (only 1.5 km from the state border). The terrorists tried to attract Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov by promising him a prisoner exchange in Nova Tavolzhanka.
The units of the Armed Forces and the Border Service of the FSB did not allow a breakthrough. Also, the saboteurs are unarmored (unlike the invasion of Greyvoron on May 22-23) and are extremely few in number. The terrorists were destroyed by airstrikes and artillery fire, the fighters did not have time to enter Nova Tavolzhanka, the Ministry of Defense reports.
Bloomberg columnist Leonid Bershidsky writes that the attempted breakthrough in the Belgorod region was necessary for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to force Russia to withdraw reserves to strengthen the border.
For the same reason, the armed forces of Ukraine intensified the shelling of border towns and villages, primarily Shebekino. At the same time, reserves are needed to secure defensive lines in the Donbass and in the Kharkov region, where Russia is successfully developing an offensive against Kupyansk and Volchansk.
“Seizing Russian territory is not a priority for Ukrainians, who are fighting to return what they consider theirs,” commented Bloomberg.
Bloomberg quotes Gladkov as insisting on the release of Kharkiv Oblast. Only this will make Belgorod Oblast safe again: the Ukrainian artillery shelling Belgorod, Shebekino, Valuyki and villages will be moved away from the state border.
If diversionary raids are needed to divert resources, then, for example, the attacks in the area of Vremevka and Velika Novoselka are attempts to probe Russian defenses. Several small armored groups, reinforced with infantry, operated here.
Bloomberg: Gerasimov must now prove himself as a military strategist and commander
The armed forces of Ukraine declare that they have gathered reserves for the summer “counter-offensive”. But Russia did the same, says Bershidsky.
The units of PMC Wagner, which Bloomberg respectfully calls the main heroes of the Russian spring victories – the release of Soledar and Bakhmut – were sent to regroup and rest.
In addition, the Chechen landing units of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard participate so far only partially (including on the Svatovo-Kremennaya operational line and in the liberation of Marinka). The exact number of these units is secret, but Ramzan Kadyrov stated that there are potentially up to 70 thousand people in the ranks.
“Moscow is happy to accept the ‘patriotic’ help of various commanders and volunteers, as it eases the burden on the regular army to strengthen defense lines,” Bloomberg wrote.
“This is the moment of truth for Valery Gerasimov as a military strategist and commander who was directly on the front line when the Ukrainian ‘counter-offensive’ began.”
ISW: Russia increased state defense procurement and formed an entire volunteer corps of the Southern Military District
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) talks about the success of the formation of volunteer units. Regional authorities are introducing new benefits for contract servicemen: for example, in the Leningrad region, soldiers will be given plots of land.
The governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, ordered the military service to pay bonuses to volunteers who enlist in contract service in the 144th motorized rifle brigade of the 40th army corps of the Southern Military District.
The authorities of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic offer to pay 20,000 rubles each to residents who join the 40th Army Corps. Naturally, the official case size is strictly classified. But even American experts disloyal to Russia talk about tens of thousands of people.
The ranks of the “musicians” are also growing. Yevgeny Prigozhin said on June 2 that only since the opening of the Wagner recruitment center in the Kirov region in March this year, about 300 volunteers have already been recruited.
The state defense order is growing. Sergey Shoigu visited Almaz-Antey, where air defense systems and missiles for them are produced: the general director of the concern Yan Novikov promised to double the volumes by expanding the production facilities.
“The Russian armed forces are improving missile production and increasing their stockpile,” ISW states.
Analysts note that the combat units have received new Su-34 attack aircraft from the United Aircraft Corporation. As you can see, the command is ready for attempts at local sabotage and “reconnaissance by force”.
