Ukrainian Rescuers Begin Restoration Work in Flood-Affected Slovenia

In flood-affected Slovenia, 51 Ukrainian rescuers and 19 pieces of equipment began restoration work.

Details: Now the combined detachment of the State Emergency Service is carrying out restoration work in the area of ​​​​the village of Rechitsa.

Rescuers deployed a mobile control post, a medical post, and also organized communication and determined the procedure for attracting people and equipment to eliminate the consequences of the flood.

A working meeting was held with a representative of the RDC, the governing body of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which coordinates the work of rescue services from all countries that work here and with local authorities.

For Ukrainian rescuers, 2 main locations have been identified for work in the bed of the Dreta River. The main tasks are the arrangement of a dam for bank protection, the expansion and change of the riverbed, drainage, cleaning the riverbed from trees and debris brought by large water. The work is extremely difficult, because rescuers have to constantly work in a fast current.

For its implementation, the specialists of the State Emergency Service have and use heavy engineering equipment, in particular 5 tracked excavators. The work is scheduled to be completed within a few days. After that, new locations will be determined.

What came before: Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob personally met the Ukrainian team rescuers, who arrived to provide assistance in connection with the floods in the country.

Recent heavy rains have caused significant damage in Slovenia, causing at least seven major and regional bridges to collapse and affecting roads and energy infrastructure. Thousands of people had to leave their homes, many were evacuated by helicopters and boats, there were casualties.

According to the authorities, this is the worst flood situation in Slovenia in recent history, which affected 2/3 of the country’s territory.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on the provision of humanitarian aid to Slovenia.
