Ukrainian Representative to UN Criticizes Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov’s Propaganda Narratives

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergei Kislitsa, noted that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov constantly uses the same narratives of Russian propaganda, but they are not impressive. About this Kislitsa wrote January 24 in X, publishing a fragment of Lavrov’s speech at the UN.

Lavrov on January 24 at a press conference dedicated to the results of the UN Security Council meeting (transcript publishes The press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry), speaking about the crash of the Russian military aircraft Il-76 near Belgorod, said that the killings of civilians in Bucha by the Russian occupiers were allegedly “staged.”

The Russian Foreign Minister said that Russia has already requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council and expects that the French presidency will conscientiously fulfill its responsibilities and schedule a meeting as soon as possible.

He recalled that Great Britain, which chaired the UN Security Council in the spring of 2022, “refused to convene a meeting for three days” at the request of Russia, which wanted to discuss the “staging” in Bucha, and expressed hope that “the French colleagues will not go down this path and will convene an urgent Security Council meeting today [24 января]”.

In addition, during his speech, Lavrov several times addressed the topic of the mentality of “our American, Anglo-Saxon and other Western colleagues who believe that they can do anything.”

Kislitsa, commenting on Lavrov’s statements and his parallels between the downing of the Il-76 and the Russian killings in Bucha, said that the Il plane was “waiting” for the Russian minister, and “this is inevitable.”

“Von Lavrov, whose IL plane is about to take off from JFK (New York JFK Airport. – “GORDON”), ends his vacation in the free world with a whimper rather than a bang. His broken record about the “staged Bucha” continuously blares on the Moscow gramophone, and his whining about the evil Anglo-Saxons is arthritic,” Kislitsa emphasized.

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine in his commentary played on Lavrov’s statements on the topic of the Il plane crash, focusing on the fact that the UN did not meet the Russian Federation’s demands for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council (France rejected the Russian Federation’s request and scheduled the meeting for the evening of January 25).

“The Security Council, however imperfect it may be, will still consider matters brought to its attention as necessary. “Il awaits you [Лавров]. This is inevitable,” the Ukrainian diplomat wrote.

Context:

On January 24, an Il-76 plane crashed in the Korochansky district of the Belgorod region of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation. Russian Telegram channels wrote that there were 63 people on board.

According to Ukrainian media, the Il-76 regularly transported ammunition to the front, in particular missiles for the S-300 air defense system, which the Russians are using to fire at the Kharkov region.

Russian propaganda resources stated that the Il-76 was allegedly transporting Ukrainian prisoners of war. In particular, this statement was disseminated TASS with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the aggressor country. The occupiers claimed that on board “there were 65 captured military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who were transported to the Belgorod region for exchange, six members of the aircraft crew and three accompanying persons.”

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War stated that the Ukrainian side is now collecting information about this incident.

Yusov said that an exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine was supposed to take place on January 24, but it did not take place.

On January 25, the Security Service of Ukraine opened criminal proceedings into the crash of a Russian Il-76 plane in the Belgorod region. “The investigation is being carried out under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war),” the SBU reported.
