There are 4.2 million Ukrainians in EU countries who enjoy temporary protection. The number of people with this status is decreasing.
Where Ukrainians continue to go en masse and from which countries refugees are leaving, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to data Eurostat.
According to the latest Eurostat data, as of February 29, 2024, 4,234,595 people from Ukraine had temporary protection status in EU countries. By the end of January, statistics totaled 4,303,115 refugees from Ukraine.
The following countries accepted the most Ukrainian refugees as of February 29:
- Germany (1,286,580 people; 30.4% of the EU total);
- Poland (957,200; 22.6%);
- Czech Republic (385,075; 9.1%).
The most people arrived in the following month in the following countries:
- Germany (+16430; +1.3%);
- Poland (+5640; +0.6%);
- Czech Republic (+3885; + 1.0%).
At the same time, in February there were fewer Ukrainians with temporary protection in five EU countries:
- Austria (-1420 people; -1.7%);
- France (-685; -1.1%);
- Estonia (-550; -1.5%);
- the Netherlands (-120; – 0.1%);
- Malta (-20; -1.0%).
Among people with temporary protection in the EU, more than 98% are citizens of Ukraine. Adult women make up 46% of temporary protection recipients in the EU. Children – 33.9%, and adult men – 21.2%.
