Ukrainian rapper Potap (Alexey Potapenko) November 24 on Instagram reported that he was involved in the creation of a new Spanish-language song Tu y Yo by his wife, Ukrainian artist Nastya Kamenskikh.
According to Potap, the song was recorded several years ago.
“This all happened a few years ago, before we were consumed by the chaos of COVID and war. And now it’s time for Tu y Yo to take flight,” he wrote.
Kamensky’s husband said that at that time he knew only a few phrases in Spanish.
“When you’re unfamiliar with a language, simplicity becomes your guiding light when you’re trying to write a song. Your thoughts only skim the surface because your limited knowledge doesn’t allow you to dig deeper. That’s how it was when I started the creative process of writing a beautiful song. All I knew in Spanish was simple Hola! and Grasias. But when I walked into Ali Alvarez’s studio in Miami, I had a simple idea for the song Tu y Yo, or “You and Me.” And guess what? Ali liked it this concept, and the incredibly talented Mario Caceras worked on it,” said the artist. “Together we plunged into the depths of emotion, weaving a dramatic story through lyrics and music. The soulful Nastya gave it her all and connected with the song like no one else.”
Context:
On November 23, the Spanish magazine Hola! exclusively posted a video for Kamensky’s new song called Tu y Yo, which she performed in Spanish. The editors called the singer a Ukrainian pop diva, noting that she “is again making a statement on the Spanish music scene.” The song was reportedly recorded in the US, co-written by Mario Caceres and produced by Ali Alvarez. Kamenskikh did not advertise that the author of the idea was Potap in her comments to the foreign press.
Rolling Stone En Español also wrote about the premiere of the video. The publication notes that with this song the artist returns to Spanish music.
After the video was released in Spain, the singer announced the premiere of a new video work in Ukraine.
