Ukrainian Prime Minister offers resignation after comments on Zelensky | NOW

The Ukrainian prime minister Oleksiy Honcharuk has finished on Friday Facebook reported that he had offered his resignation to President Volodymyr Zelensky, after a fuss had arisen because Honcharuk would have said disrespectful things about the president.

Last week an audio clip leaked out of an informal economic cabinet meeting in which Prime Minister Honcharuk says that “Zelensky has a very primitive understanding of the economy.”

Honcharuk endorsed that he himself is also a “stupid person” when it comes to the economy and that a clear explanation of the economic outlook for Ukraine is needed for the president.

After the leaked audio fragment, a fuss arose in the country because the prime minister had not been respectful towards the president and his economic knowledge. The prime minister then decided to offer his resignation. “To dispel doubts about respect for and trust in the president, I offered him a letter of resignation,” said Honcharuk.

Zelensky is considering the resignation but has not yet made any statements about it. The president should first put the resignation to the vote in the Ukrainian parliament, they can then vote to dismiss Honcharuk.
