Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of Russia’s attempts to mobilize all its resources to stop its troops. This was done to suppress counterattacks from Ukraine.
Even so, Ukrainian military analysts assess, the situation is not easy for Ukrainian troops in their efforts to advance south.
Ukrainian troops themselves are known to have launched counteroffensives to retake territories in eastern and southern Ukraine. Especially those that were captured by Russian troops in their invasion in February 2022.
Ukraine is focused on regaining control of villages southeast towards the Sea of Azov and areas near the eastern city of Bakhmut, which Russian troops captured in May after months of fighting.
Russia claims its forces have repulsed Ukrainian attacks in the eastern region of Donetsk, including around Bakhmut.
“We must all understand with the utmost clarity that the Russian forces that are in our southern and eastern regions are doing everything they can to stop our soldiers,” Zelensky said. Reuters, Friday (15/7/2023).
Until now, there has been no verification regarding the reports that are happening on the battlefield.
The commander of the Ukrainian forces in the south, General Oleksander Tarnavskyi said after the meeting his troops had systematically driven the enemy from their positions. Meanwhile, the victims who fell from the enemy during the last 24 hours almost reached 200 people, he wrote on Telegram.
The Russian Defense Ministry, in its daily report, said its troops had repulsed 16 Ukrainian offensives on its eastern front, including near the long contested town of Maryinka and in the strategic village of Klishchiivka, on the southern outskirts of Bakhmut.
