President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said he would remain in Kiev, Saturday (26/2). This statement was made by Zelensky during the troop movement Russia further pressure on the nation’s capital, Kiev.
“We will not lay down our weapons, we will defend our country,” Zelensky said in a video recorded outside his office, which is in Kiev, Saturday (26/2), quoted by Reuters.
Previously, Zelensky had warned of the movement of Russian troops to the capital of his country.
“Tonight will be difficult, and the enemy will use all their strength to break the Ukrainian resistance,” he said, Friday (25/2).
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry said fighting had taken place on the streets of Kiev, Saturday (26/2).
“Active fighting is taking place on the streets of our city. Please remain calm and as careful as possible!” the ministry said in a statement on their Facebook account, quoted by CNN.
“If you’re in a shelter, don’t leave now. If you’re at home, don’t move, close the windows, don’t go out onto the terrace. Hide indoors, such as in the bathroom, and cover yourself with something to prevent injury. shrapnel,” the statement continued.
“If you hear a siren, go to the nearest shelter!”
Since Russia decided to invade Ukraine, the country’s cities have been bombarded with missiles and long-range artillery. Ukraine also reported that they were under siege from three directions: south, east and north.
As a result of this conflict, more than 50,000 Ukrainians fled the country.
