Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that he will not accept any proposed peace plan that would turn Russia’s war in his country into a frozen conflict, Reuters reported.
This became clear from Zelensky’s emphasis in his speech to the Verkhovna Rada – the Ukrainian parliament – on the occasion of the Ukrainian Constitution Day.
Ukraine’s president has signaled that he remains opposed to any peace plan that would freeze territories seized by Russia since the invasion in February last year, Reuters notes.
“Ukraine will not agree to any of the options for a frozen conflict,” he said.
Zelensky has drawn up a 10-point peace plan that includes restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity, withdrawing Russian armed forces and returning Ukrainian state borders.
Kiev has launched a counter-offensive, with which it tries to regain the occupied territories, but the Russian army still holds areas in eastern and southern Ukraine, reminds Reuters.
Meanwhile, Ukrinform pointed out that President Zelensky’s speech was broadcast on YouTube by the parliamentary TV channel Rada. The agency specifies that the head of state spoke for more than an hour.
Ukrinform adds that Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech in the Verkhovna Rada was attended by the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, the Prime Minister of the country Denis Shmyhal and the Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov. (BTA, Ivo Tasev)
