Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today hailed the heroism of his army as intense fighting rages in southern Ukraine, AFP reported.
“I am addressing our soldiers, all who are involved in particularly fierce fighting these days. We have witnessed your heroism and are grateful for every minute of your life,” Zelensky said in his daily video address.
Kiev said its forces were ready for a counteroffensive to retake territory in the east and south of the country, but added that no official announcement was expected.
Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the Ukrainian counter-offensive had “begun” and failed.
Tonight, Zelensky did not mention a possible counteroffensive or even a specific military operation.
“We are directing our attention to all the places where our actions are needed and where the enemy can be defeated,” he said.
