The ministry needs new approaches, the president said
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky fired Kiev’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov on Sunday, calling for “new approaches” in the ministry, a year and a half after the Russian invasion, BGNES reported.

“Aleksii Reznikov has gone through more than 550 days of full-scale war,” Zelensky said in his daily evening address. “I think that the ministry needs new approaches and other formats of interaction both with the military and with society in general,” said Zelensky.
Volodymyr Zelensky surprisingly appointed politician Rustem Umerov as defense minister to replace Alexei Reznikov as the war with Russia enters its 19th month.

“Now Rustem Umerov should head the ministry (of defense),” Zelensky said in his evening address. “I expect the parliament to support this candidate”.
