Ukrainian President Zelensky Faces Cold Reception and Ridicule in US Congress

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky received a “cold reception” during a speech in the US Congress. In addition, several dozen Republicans used Zelensky’s speech to ridicule the politician, Axios reports.

“The effectiveness of Zelensky’s personal appeals was called into question as dozens of Republicans used his visit as an excuse to dismiss Ukraine’s requests and ridicule its leader. <…> The Ukrainian leader received a “cold reception” in Congress, the material says Axios. It is noted that before Zelensky’s visit to the United States, a group of American legislators opposed the United States allocating $24 billion in military aid to Ukraine. The group insisted that Ukraine explain where the country spent the previously issued money and what it would do with the new ones.

In addition, Zelensky was unable to achieve the main goal of his trip to the United States. Although the country promised new supplies to Ukraine, they will not include the ATACMS tactical missiles that Kyiv requested, reports RT. Despite this, during his visit to the United States, Zelensky was still able to agree with President Joe Biden to start joint production of weapons.
