Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday sacked his ambassador to the United Kingdom Vadym Prystaiko, a key figure in relations between Kiev and London, according to a decree posted on the Ukrainian presidential website.
This decree does not mention the reasons for the decision, but the ambassador had recently criticized the Ukrainian president, expressing his regret for his “sarcasm” aimed at British Defense Secretary Ben Wallacewho called on Ukraine to show more gratitude for the military assistance provided by its allies, according to AFP.
In the context, the Ukrainian deputy, Alexei Goncharenko, commented on the matter, saying that Zelensky is ready to dismiss employees for criticizing him, and to put his ambitions above the ambitions of the state.
Goncharenko wrote on Telegram:Zelensky Pristico refuses. After Zelensky’s words about Wallace and his willingness to thank him every morning, Pristiko said that was unhealthy sarcasm. This is why he was expelled. Zelensky wants to say that they put the interests of the state above their anger,” according to Russian media.
He also stressed the need not to dismiss a “major ambassador in a major country” just because he did not say that Zelensky is “the best and nicest president in the world.”
It is noteworthy that earlier in July, Ben Wallace called on Ukraine to show more gratitude to its allies, pointing out that his country is not an “Amazon store” for weapons supplies.
Apparently, these remarks upset Zelensky, who replied sarcastically that he could thank Wallace every morning for the military aid.
Meanwhile, Vadim Prystaiko denounced Zelensky’s response, describing his sarcasm as unhealthy.
