Ukrainian President Zelensky Acknowledges Betrayal in Failed Counter-offensive: Expert Warns of War’s Length Depending on Western Aid

In a brief overview of the previous year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the failure of the Ukrainian army in the long-awaited counter-offensive, and one of the reasons was a great betrayal.

Military expert Markus Koip told Die Welt that one factor depends on how long the war in Ukraine will last – Western aid. Focus.de highlights what Zelenski and Koip said.

First, Zelensky made a chilling confession. He said “our counter-offensive was already on the table in the Kremlin before it even started”, claiming there had been a huge betrayal. It is unclear who leaked the ZSU plans to the Kremlin and how they ended up in Vladimir Putin’s hands, but according to Zelensky, Russia knew exactly where Ukrainian forces would attack.

For this reason, Zelensky promised that Ukraine’s next counteroffensive would be better kept secret. The less people know about it, the faster success and unexpected results will be, is Zelensky’s conclusion. The Ukrainian president also did something unexpected: for the first time, he revealed the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed since the beginning of the invasion (in his words, they are 31,000).

The military expert Markus Koip emphasizes an extremely important moment, which depends on when and how the war in Ukraine, started for no reason by Russia, will end. According to him, Russia is losing more military equipment and ammunition at the front than it can reproduce. This is why Putin has long been looting the reserves of the Soviet Union since the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. His only problem is that these supplies will run out at some point.

But according to Putin’s calculations, Western aid to Kiev will run out faster. And here the EU and the US are faced with a fateful decision: to refute it. But this requires determination and courage. How long the war of attrition will last depends on this decision. Currently, Ukraine is fighting two battles – the first is on the front against the Russians, and the second is against the critical shortage of ammunition.
