Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his hope that one day Ukraine could become the ‘Greater Israel’. This was expressed in an official statement, Wednesday (6/4/2022).
Zelensky said he expected this because he believes that Ukraine will not be able to become a large democracy like European countries in the next 10 years.
According to him, the image of Israel where armed civilians, settlers and soldiers are commonplace can be realized by Ukraine because it believes it has a strong citizen and military.
“I want my country to be a ‘big Israel’ with its own face after the Russian invasion ends,” he was quoted as saying by Al Jazeera.
“Ukraine definitely won’t be what we wanted it to be from the start. It’s impossible. Totally liberal, Europe, we won’t be like that. Ukraine will definitely come from the power of every house, every building, every person,” he added.
Zelensky himself is currently in frequent communication with the Israeli government led by Prime Minister (PM) Naftali Bennett. Even so, Israel has not yet voiced a strong condemnation of Russia’s actions mentioning Ukraine.
However, Israel has recently voiced its condemnation of the massacre that took place in Bucha. By not naming Russia as the culprit of the incident, Bennett said his party was very shocked to see what happened in the city.
“We were, of course, shocked by the rude scenes in Bucha. The pictures were horrible, and we really condemned them,” he said.
“The suffering of the Ukrainian people is immense, and we are doing everything we can to help.”
