Plans for an assassination attempt against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi have been revealed and stopped, according to the country’s security service.
A woman has been arrested for helping Russia plan an attack against the president, according to the security service (SBU).
An SBU official claims the woman gathered information about Zelenskyi’s travel plans for a visit to the southern Mykolayiv region in June. The arrested person helped Russia plan a “massive air strike against the Mykolaiv region”, according to the SBU.
The SBU says they were aware of the assassination plans in advance and took extra precautions.
Zelenskyj writes on social media that he is informed about the case and refers to the disclosure as “a fight against traitors”.
In recent weeks, SBU has been keeping an eye on the woman to gather evidence. The security services say they caught her red-handed when she gave information to Russian intelligence agents.
