Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has signed a law setting new dates for three holidays – Christmas, Ukrainian Statehood Day and Defender of Ukraine Day, according to a statement on the parliament’s website.

We are talking about changes in Article 73 of the Code of Labor Laws. It was handed back on Friday with the President’s signature.
The law provides for changes in the dates of public holidays.
Christmas is on December 25 instead of January 7, Ukraine’s Statehood Day is on July 15 instead of July 28, and Defender of Ukraine Day is on October 1 instead of October 14.
December 25 will be a holiday.
As stated in the explanatory notes, the Russian ideology has been imposed on the Ukrainian people for a long time in almost all areas of life, including the observance of the Julian calendar and the celebration of Christmas on January 7.
“The Feast of the Nativity of Christ is a major Christian holiday that is an integral part of our Ukrainian culture. The majority of Orthodox Christians in the world celebrate the Nativity of Christ on December 25,” the document says.
On May 24, at the Synod of Bishops, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church approved the complete transition to the New Julian calendar on September 1. Most of the world’s Orthodox churches live according to this.
