Ukrainian President orders troop reinforcement in northern Ukraine after Wagner boss moves to Belarus

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday ordered the reinforcement of troops in northern Ukraine. This happens after the move of Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin from Russia to Belarus.

Prigozhin sent his mercenaries towards Moscow late last week after another clash with the Russian defense top, but ended the uprising after mediation by Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko. According to the deal, Prigozhin will not be prosecuted and he was allowed to leave for Belarus with his mercenaries. According to Lukashenko, he has now arrived there.

Ukraine has already strengthened its military presence at the border with Belarus. Although Belarus itself is not directly involved in the war between Ukraine and Russia, it allowed Russian troops to enter Ukraine from Belarusian territory in February last year. Russian attacks on Ukraine were also carried out from Belarus.

At the same time, the Russian media watchdog on Friday blocked media organizations linked to Prigozhin, the Russian newspaper reported Kommersant.

According to the newspaper, anyone who wants to visit the sites of the organizations in Russia will receive a message that they have been blocked. No information is shared about the reason. The blockades can probably be traced back to last week’s events.
