“Every opportunity has the possibility of negotiation, the possibility of talking to Putin. But if this attempt fails, it means this is World War Three,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky thought that Ukraine could actually face the Russian attack and strike back. However, for him, self-respect will not save lives. So, he will take the option of negotiation.
