Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, here on June 2, 2023, denies any Ukrainian involvement in the sabotage of the NordStream gas pipeline.

INTERNATIONAL – Ukraine is not at the origin of this sabotage, according to its president. Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed on Wednesday June 7 that he was not involved in the explosion of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, which occurred in September. He also assures that he does not believe that other Ukrainian officials played a role, as claimed by several newspapers.

“I did nothing like that, I would never do that”affirmed the Ukrainian president in an interview broadcast by the German media Welt-TV and Bild who questioned him about the mystery surrounding the explosion of the gas pipeline, at the origin of major gas leaks. “I don’t think our military and our intelligence services have done anything like that, otherwise I would like to see evidence. We don’t know any of this.”he added.

The CIA alerted in 2022

According to an article from Washington Post published on Tuesday, an intelligence agency of a European country had warned the CIA in June 2022 that Ukrainian special forces planned to blow up the Nord Stream gas pipeline. The daily cites information from numerous confidential documents published online by the young American soldier Jack Teixeira arrested in mid-April.

The Nord Stream pipeline carrying natural gas from Russia to Germany was sabotaged by underwater explosions on September 26 and rendered inoperative, depriving Moscow of billions of dollars in revenue and cutting off the Russian gas route to Europe .

Prior to this information from Washington Post, German media research has claimed that several leads on gas line sabotage lead to Ukraine. Several clues “agree with the estimates of several intelligence services, according to which the perpetrators are to be sought in Ukraine”wrote the Spiegel end of May, wondering if certain elements of the Ukrainian government apparatus knew about it.

Several countries, including Russia, Ukraine and the United States, have also been accused of instigating the sabotage, but all have denied it.
