Ukrainian President Claims US Negligence in Warning About Leaks

Ukrainian president: U.S. did not warn about leaks

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the Washington Post that the White House did not warn him in advance of last month’s furor over the leak of secret U.S. documents related news.

“I had no prior information from the White House or the Pentagon,” Zelensky said. “We did not. I personally did not.”

“It’s not good for us,” he added. “It’s not good for the reputation of the White House, and I don’t think it’s good for the reputation of America,” he said.

This embarrassing security breach by the United States revealed that the United States is uneasy about the upcoming counterattack by the Ukrainian army against Russian troops and is worried about Ukrainian air defense.

The leaked documents also included reports of Russian and Ukrainian military casualties and equipment losses, details of NATO observation aircraft movements over the Black Sea, and details of U.S. spying on close partner Ukraine.

While refusing to confirm or deny the authenticity of any of the leaked documents, Zelensky told the Washington Post: “Anyone who in any way informs our enemies in advance of any information is absolutely not in our interest.”

According to the Washington Post, Zelensky said that he must prioritize the overall situation of the war, rather than his personal feelings about the lack of communication in the United States. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has provided Kiev with billions of dollars worth of support.

“I can’t risk my country,” he told the Washington Post.

He added: “Where it’s okay to be blunt, I’ll be blunt. But the stakes are high.”
