The Ukrainian president claims that his army shot down “seven Russian military planes this week”, and a total of around fifteen since the beginning of February. The Russian drone attack in Odessa on Saturday left at least twelve people dead. After the death of Alexei Navalny, Canada announces new sanctions against Russia.

In his daily message on Telegram, Volodymyr Zelensky also reiterates his call to his Western allies to accelerate the export of arms and ammunition to kyiv.
New sanctions
Canada announced new sanctions against Russian officials on Sunday. This announcement comes after the death of Russian opponent Alexeï Navalny. Six senior officials and high-ranking staff members of the criminal prosecution, judicial and correctional services are targeted by this series of sanctions.

In a press release, Ottawa declared that these officials “participated in the violation of Mr. Navalny’s human rights, his cruel punishment and, ultimately, his death”. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly, added that Canada, with its partners, “will maintain pressure on the Russian government to conduct a full and transparent investigation into Mr. Navalny’s death”.

Crimean bridge closed
Russian authorities have closed traffic on the Crimean Bridge which connects the peninsula to Krasnodar Krai for a second night in a row. No official reason has been communicated.

The previous night, residents reported hearing sounds of explosions near an oil depot in Feodossia. The Russian defense minister claimed that his army had intercepted 38 Ukrainian drones.

Twelve dead in Odessa
Two new bodies were found in the debris of the residential building hit by the Russian drone strike at dawn on Saturday. There were two children, bringing the death toll to twelve on Sunday evening. A total of five children were killed in the attack. Search operations at the scene have also ended, announced the region’s governor, Oleh Kiper.

On the international scene
Berlin accused Vladimir Putin of seeking to “destabilize” Germany, following the broadcast from Russia of confidential exchanges between German officers on arms deliveries to Ukraine.
For its part, the British Ministry of Defense estimates the number of Russian deaths and injuries daily since February at nearly 1,000.
