Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy challenges the United Nations (UN) to “act immediately” against Russia or “dissolve yourself”. This was conveyed in a virtual speech before the UN Security Council on Tuesday (5/4) local time, where he showed gruesome footage of the bodies – including children – who he said were victims of Russian atrocities.
Reported from the news agency AFPWednesday (6/4/2022), Zelensky equated the actions of the Russian team at bushing and cities Ukraine others with violence perpetrated by “terrorists” such as the ISIS group. Zelensky also called on the 15-member UN Security Council – whose aim is to ensure international peace and security – to expel Russia “so that it cannot block decisions about its own aggression, its own war”.
Noted that Russia, as one of the five permanent members of the UNSC, has the power of veto, which has been repeatedly used to thwart resolutions and negotiations at the world body. That means, Russia cannot be expelled from the world body, because Russia will veto any vote or recommendation from the Security Council to remove it.
“If there is no alternative … then the next option is to disband all of you,” Zelensky said.
“Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready to close the UN? … If your answer is no, then you must act immediately,” he continued.
In front of the UNSC, Zelenskyy aired a 90-second graphic clip of what he said were images of cities including bushing and the besieged port city of Mariupol Russia.
The footage shows partially uncovered dead people – including children – in shallow graves, several bodies in the yard and dead people with their hands tied.
“Now the world can see what the Russian military is doing here bushing,” kata Zelenskyy.
“They were killed in their apartments, their homes, detonating grenades, civilians were crushed by tanks while sitting in their cars in the middle of the road, just for their pleasure. They cut off their limbs… slit their throats,” the leader said. Ukraine that.
