Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the Netherlands, on the 4th and called for the establishment of a special tribunal to try Russia’s aggression. The president and Ukrainian officials also reiterated their appeal to the allies for advanced fighter jets.
Russia has claimed the US was behind the drone attack on Moscow’s Kremlin, but has provided no evidence. When Russia announced the attack, it blamed Ukraine, which Ukraine denies. U.S. Director of National Intelligence Haynes told the Senate Armed Services Committee that he did not have enough information to determine whether Russia’s claim that Ukraine had staged the drone strike was true.
The Institute for War Studies (ISW), a U.S. think tank, said, “It is highly likely that Russia fabricated this attack in order to create the conditions for a wider range of mobilization.”
The mayor of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, said a drone was shot down over the city on the afternoon of the 4th.
Drone attack on refinery in southern Russia
The Irsky refinery in the Krasnodar region of southern Russia was attacked by a drone on the morning of the 5th, state news agency TASS reported. The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured.
The refinery was also targeted by three drones on Wednesday morning, destroying one petroleum product tank and burning another, Interfax news agency reported.
