Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of using food and energy as a weapon, stressing that Russia “has no right” to possess nuclear weapons.
The Ukrainian president said in a speech he delivered on Tuesday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he received prolonged applause, that “Russia uses food prices (…) and nuclear energy as a weapon.”
He added that Russia is trying to maneuver the issue of global food shortages to gain international recognition for the land it seized from Kiev.
In his first personal appearance at the General Assembly’s annual meetings since Russia invaded his country in 2022, Zelensky criticized Moscow for what he said was “an attempt to weaponize food shortages on the global market in exchange for recognition of some, if not all, of the territories that (Russia) has seized.”
He also accused Russia of committing genocide by kidnapping Ukrainian children, and said that Kiev was working to prepare for a global peace summit.
Zelensky said, “Ukraine is doing everything in its power to ensure that after the Russian aggression, no one in the world will dare to attack any country. The occupier must return to his land.”
