Ukrainian presenter who comments on Song Contest from bunker: “The air raid siren sounded ten minutes before the show” | Eurovision songfestival

MusicThe photos of Timur Miroshnychenko flying from a bunker Eurovision songfestival comments, went around the world earlier this week. It was therefore a striking image to say the least. But necessary, the presenter tells ‘Qmusic’. “Unfortunately, Russia has not given us a schedule for the air strikes.”

“Obviously we shouldn’t be in the bunker all the time, only during the air raids”, explains Timur Miroshnychenko on ‘Qmusic’. “Unfortunately, Russia has not given us a schedule.” That is why he presents the Eurovision Song Contest from the bunker as a precaution. “Because of the safety measures, but also so that we are not interrupted during the broadcast. And that’s necessary, because yesterday the air raid sirens started sounding ten minutes before the show started. So it was a good decision to present from the bunker.”

Still, Miroschnychenko and his team think it’s important to do this. “The Song Contest is a beacon of hope for us”, it sounds. “We have to live, we have to keep doing what we did before.” It is also good to watch the Eurovision Song Contest, he says. “It feels really good. We see that there are Ukrainian flags in the arena, that the performers pose with them. And we discover some hidden signals from the organizers. Just look at the costume of presenter Mika: in the first semifinal he wore a blue jacket, in the second a yellow one. For us that is a clear sign: ‘We support you’. At the beginning we thought we were alone in this war, but now we really get the feeling that the whole civilized world is supporting us.”

It is not yet certain whether Ukraine – as many bookmakers predict – will win the match, according to Miroschnychenko. “You never know, it is and will always be a competition and there are a lot of good songs. Your Jérémie for example. I thought his performance was the best from the second semi-final. And I’m a fan of your entries anyway, you have a great music industry.”
