Ukrainian Pensioner with Disability Seeks Exchange with Russia amidst Legal Proceedings

“Please add me to the list for an exchange with the Russian Federation,” the statement, written in Russian, said.

The document bears his signature with a note: Boguslaev, pensioner, disabled person of the 1st group. His lawyer’s cover letter states the date of filing the application as March 20, 2023.

He also complained to his Russian interlocutors about the shelling of Motor Sich by the invaders, but did not stop cooperating with them.

The court took Boguslayev into custody , the term of the preventive measure was extended for the last time until May 27 .

On November 5, during a meeting of the headquarters of the Supreme Commander, a decision was made to forcibly withdraw shares of five enterprises of strategic importance – Ukrnafta, Ukrtatnafta, Zaporizhtransformator, AvtoKrAZ and Motor Sich. Their management was transferred to the Ministry of Defense, said NSDC Secretary Alexei Danilov.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal assured that five strategic enterprises seized in Ukraine will work around the clock for defense.

On February 1, 2023, the SBU announced to Boguslayev that he was suspected of financing the terrorist organization “DPR” through the payment of “taxes” and “fees”. In March, the SBU reported that Boguslaev blocked the transfer of the Mi-2 helicopter to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, and he was informed of a new suspicion.

On February 25, the EU added Boguslayev to its sanctions list.

There have already been cases in Ukraine when defendants in treason cases were exchanged for Ukrainian military. In particular, ex-people’s deputy Viktor Medvedchuk, who asked to be extradited to Russia, was exchanged in September 2022. Then the commanders of the Mariupol garrison and more than 200 soldiers were released.
