The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine introduced the word “racism” into the legislation, passing a resolution on Tuesday “On the use by the political regime of the Russian Federation of the ideology of racism, condemning the principles and practices of racism as totalitarian and misanthropic.” This is reported by the Ukrainian Service of the BBC.
According to the BBC Ukrainian service, the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada have collected in the text of the document the definitions and characteristics of the current Russian authorities, trying to scientifically explain this phenomenon with definitions that have been given by both Ukrainian and Western historians, publicists and cultural scientists , and to come to the conclusion that racism is modern Russian fascism.
“Russia’s brutal, unprovoked war against Ukraine revealed to the whole world the true nature of Vladimir Putin’s political regime as a neo-imperial, totalitarian dictatorship that follows the worst practices of the past and embodies the ideas of fascism and National Socialism in the modern version of Russian fascism (racism),” says an explanatory note to the resolution.
Ukrainian MPs hope that their document will ultimately form a unified approach of international institutions to the Russian policy that has become the cause of the aggression against Ukraine.
“The adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of a resolution on racism simply states the reality of the use of this term, which today has developed both in Ukraine and to some extent in the world scientific discussion,” explains Svyatoslav Khomenko, correspondent of the BBC’s Russian Service in Ukraine .
“The goal of the Ukrainian legislators is a situation where the word “racism” will powerfully and reliably come into use in politics, journalism, culture in various languages of the world, in order to show people once again that Russia is really actively using the practices of the fascist regime , who condemns with words,” says the correspondent.
