In recent months, the outflow of Ukrainians from Poland to other European countries has been increasing. According to the Polish Social Insurance Office (ZUS), in December 2023, 759 thousand Ukrainian citizens paid contributions – 6.9 thousand people less than in November 2023. Although the biggest decline was recorded in January 2023 – then 8.2 thousand Ukrainians deregistered from ZUS.
In total, in 2023, the number of insured Ukrainians in Poland increased by 13.4 thousand.
Business Insider Polska notes that the gradual outflow of Ukrainians from Poland is also evidenced by Eurostat data. In particular, according to the statistical service, at the end of December, 951.4 thousand people with temporary protection lived in Poland, which is 5.3 thousand fewer people compared to November.
At the same time, Eurostat data show that some countries have recorded a significant influx of Ukrainians who have received temporary protection status. This could be a clue to where Ukrainian refugees are moving.
The number of Ukrainian refugees increased the most in Germany (by 275.4 thousand per year), the Netherlands (by 35.5 thousand) and Norway (by 33.2 thousand).
The largest number of refugees left the Czech Republic in a year – in November 2023, there were 55 thousand fewer people with temporary protection in this country compared to November 2022.
