Ukrainian NBA professionals condemn the war in their homeland

Ukrainian NBA professionals Alex Len and Svyatoslav Mykhailiuk issued a joint statement condemning Russia’s invasion of their homeland. “A great tragedy has occurred in our beloved homeland of Ukraine,” the statement, which the two posted on their social media channels, read: “We categorically condemn the war.”

Len of the Sacramento Kings and Mykhailiuk of the Toronto Raptors stressed that Ukraine is “a peaceful sovereign state inhabited by people who want to determine their own destiny. We pray for our families, friends, relatives and all the people who are in the territory. from Ukraine”.

In the letter, the two also expressed their sympathy for the local population. “We hope that this terrible war will end soon. Dear Ukrainian compatriots, wait! Our strength lies in unity! We are with you,” wrote Len and Mykhailiuk, the only two Ukrainian players in the North American professional basketball league.

Other Ukrainian athletes have also commented on Russia’s attack on Ukraine, including English champion Manchester City footballer Oleksandr Zinchenko and tennis player Elina Svitolina.
