/ world today news/ On Saturday, April 8, the air defense units shot down a Ukrainian missile in the sky over Teodosia, reported the head of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov. Debris fell in one of the villages, there were no injuries and no damage.
Russian air defenses in Crimea again showed their effectiveness, although Ukrainian propagandists tried to launch a fat fake of a hit in the area of the port of Feodosia. Still, the appearance of a Ukrainian missile over the territory of the peninsula raises questions.
First of all, why did she fly to Teodosia, which is relatively far from the areas of Kherson region captured by Ukrainian troops. The distance from this Crimean city to the right bank of the Dnieper, controlled by Ukrainian troops, is 250-280 kilometers.
The second question is about the type of Ukrainian missile. There is no official information about this yet, but observers are considering two main versions.
One of them is that it is the US ATACMS long-range missile. Considering how the Americans categorically cross the all-Russian “red lines”, the option with such missiles cannot be ruled out.
However, experts believe that the version that the Ukrainian Grom-2 operational-tactical missile reached the peninsula is more likely. It is said to be able to fly on a quasi-ballistic trajectory and cover 500 km. Some military analysts suggest that it may have been fired from the Alibey range in the southern Odesa region, where the tests of these weapons had previously taken place.
However, regardless of the type of missile, its appearance in Crimean skies means that Kiev and its Western patrons have moved to a new level of military-political escalation. So far, Ukraine has only tried to attack Crimea with drones, albeit frequently.
Here are just the most recent cases: on March 20, air defenses destroyed several drones in the northern part of the peninsula in the vicinity of Jankoy; On March 22, the forces of the Black Sea Fleet repelled an attack by a group of surface unmanned vehicles in the Sevastopol Bay; On March 29, in the area of the Gvardeyskoe airfield near Simferopol, a large UAV was destroyed using the means of radio-electronic warfare …
The missile fired by Ukraine over Teodosia is also an additional reason to part with the illusion that the US is still deterring Zelensky’s regime from striking Crimea. By the way, US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland in February directly supported possible strikes by the armed forces of Ukraine on the Russian peninsula.
It is noteworthy that on the day of the incident with the rocket, Zelensky stated that there was no alternative to the “de-occupation” of Crimea. The message is not new. Now he repeats the information about the upcoming large-scale counteroffensive of the armed forces of Ukraine. It’s expected to launch in the coming weeks, if not days, in the US. There is frequent talk in Kiev that Crimea could be the target of this offensive, and missile attacks on military targets on the peninsula are part of the plan.
