The Ukrainian military used an offensive first-person view (FPV) drone to annihilate an armored platoon of 11 Russian military vehicles moving along the Donetsk front.
According to U.S. Business Insider on the 4th (local time), the Ukrainian military eliminated a Russian platoon consisting of 11 tanks and armored vehicles near Novomikhailivka in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, which Russia is attempting to occupy, on the 30th of last month. It was reported that these military vehicles were moving to attack Ukrainian positions at the time.
The battle lasted for almost two and a half hours, and it was none other than the Ukrainian military’s FPV drone that destroyed the Russian military vehicle convoy. These drones destroyed three T-72 tanks, seven MT-LB amphibious armored vehicles, and one BMP infantry fighting vehicle. The number of casualties is not yet known.
Ukraine’s 72nd Mechanized Brigade announced this news in a Telegram statement on the 1st and posted a video of the situation at the time.
The situation at the time was captured on the camera mounted on the drone. The video showed several drones rushing toward Russian tanks and armored vehicles, but the video cut off just before impact. Another video shows a parade of Russian military vehicles captured from the sky, with the vehicles engulfed in smoke and flames as the drone crashes into them. In this way, several military vehicles were engulfed in flames one after another, and in the latter part of the video, the destroyed military vehicles were filmed one by one, showing that several military vehicles were completely destroyed.
Unmanned drones are effective and inexpensive weapons that have been used since the beginning of the Ukraine war, and are showing significant performance on the battlefield. Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valery Zaluzny told CNN, “Technological innovation has changed the nature of war,” emphasizing the role of unmanned weapon systems such as drones. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Ukraine aims to produce 1 million attack FPV drones within the year.
The Institute for War Studies (ISW), an American think tank, said, “Russian military bloggers continue to express dissatisfaction with the Russian military’s continued tactical mistakes during offensive operations in western Donetsk Oblast,” adding, “In particular, Russian forces are advancing with Ukrainian forces.” After seeing a video showing an attack on a convoy of military vehicles and tanks, he said Russian commanders failed to take the drone factor into account when planning tactical attacks and criticized the commanders as ‘completely stupid and incompetent.’
