Ukrainian Military Begins Partial Withdrawal from Avdeevka, Donetsk – Washington Post Reports

The Ukrainian military announced that it had begun a partial withdrawal of troops from Avdeevka, Donetsk region, an important fortified area of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the outskirts of Donetsk. This was reported by the American newspaper The Washington Post with reference to the Ukrainian military.

The newspaper’s interlocutors believe that the loss of Avdiivka is “a matter of time.” The last Ukrainian stronghold in the city, the publication writes, will probably be the destroyed coke plant.

If Avdeevka is captured, WP writes, Russian troops will win “the most significant victory on the battlefield since the failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive” in 2023 – and this will be “the clearest sign that Russian troops are regaining the initiative, since Kiev lacks soldiers, weapons , ammunition, morale and money.”

Russian troops launched an offensive against Avdeevka in October 2023, suffering significant losses. Since the beginning of 2024, the Russian army has been trying to cut off the coke plant from Avdeevka, which runs the main supply line for the Ukrainian Armed Forces group. On February 15, Russian and Ukrainian sources reported that Russian troops had seized the main entrance to Avdeevka.
