The Ukrainian men’s volleyball team today completed the group stage of the European Volleyball Championship with a match against Spain. In order to continue playing in the tournament, our volleyball players had to not only win, but always with a score of 3:0 or 3:1.
From the start of the first game, the Ukrainians let go of their opponents by three points 2:5, but soon they not only leveled the situation 8:8, but also took the lead themselves 9:8. A little later Ugis Krastiņš’s wards took the lead with a difference of three points 14:11. And when on the scoreboard the score became 19:14 in favor of Ukraine, it was thought that it would not be difficult for them to bring this game to a positive result. But I still had to worry. The Spaniards managed to close the gap even to the minimum 21:20. It’s good that Yuriy Semenyuk and Vasily Tupchy played well in the end, thanks to which the yellow-blues won 25:21.
In the second set, the Ukrainians tried to continue in the same vein and took the lead 7:4, 9:6. But the Spaniards, in turn, took three points and leveled the score 9:9. Fortunately, our team again managed to get into a small lead, which grew to five points 23:18 towards the end of the game, and the final score was the same as in the first set 25:21.
And in the third installment, Ukrainian volleyball players first made a good start 5:2, 9:4. 12:8, 15:10. It was after this result that Vasily Tupchy unsuccessfully carried out two attacks, then the Ukrainians missed an ace and a block of opponents. The numbers 15:14 appeared on the scoreboard, and soon the score equaled 16:16. But all’s well that ends well. Ukraine made a decisive breakthrough and won the set 25:19.
Thus, having won 3:0, the Ukrainian team advanced to the 1/8 finals. With what we congratulate her!
